My Experience With Critical Illness

A number of years ago I was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.

There is no cure!

The doctors indicated that at some point my kidneys would cease to function and I would require dialysis and if lucky a kidney transplant from a donor.

I subsequently went on drug regimen to slow the process. About 10 years later, my kidneys shut down completely and I had to be hospitalized.

Unfortunately, I spent most of the year in a hospital either in Kelowna or Vancouver. After a number of months on dialysis; I was fortunate in that a living donor came forward with a kidney and the transplant was successful. However, that required me to stay in Vancouver for a few months for recuperation and drug adjustment. Drugs were required to shut down my immune system so that my body wouldn’t reject the kidney.

As I was unable to work; I had to use my savings and credit cards to fill in the gap. At the end of the year, my savings were gone and I had credit cards loaded up to $80,000.

Critical Illness Insurance was NOT available prior to my diagnosis!

I should note here that once diagnosed with a critical illness, the chances of obtaining the insurance is next to impossible.

Don’t let this happen to you!
